4 steps to use an external mouse with ur laptop

How to Use an External Mouse with a Laptop

Introduction:

Though a laptop computer gives you the option of using a built-in mouse, you should carry an external mouse as well, especially if you use the laptop for long hours. Having an external mouse makes navigation more convenient. Here’s how to use an external mouse with a laptop:

Steps:

Step One
Determine the type of port your laptop has. Most old laptops have a round port, called a PS/2. If your laptop doesn’t have a PS/2 port, it will have a USB port; this is the type found in most new models.

Step Two
Buy a mouse that is compatible with your laptop's port.

Step Three
Connect your PS/2 mouse to the PS/2 port. Alternatively, connect your USB mouse to the USB port. Configure the device using the setup wizard.

Step Four
Another option would be a wireless mouse. Be sure your laptop and the wireless mouse are compatible. For instance, if your laptop is Bluetooth enabled, you can easily connect a Bluetooth wireless mouse. Insert batteries into the mouse, connect the wireless receiver to your computer and install the software.

15 steps to extend ur laptop's battery life

How to Extend Your Laptop's Battery Life

Introduction:

Laptop's these days have an annoying habit of running out of juice right when you need them.
Follow these tips to get the most out of your Laptop's battery.

Things You'll Need

  • Time
  • A Laptop

Steps:

Step One

Defragmet your hard drive regularly - The less your hard drive spins - less demand you are going to put on the hard drive and your battery. Make your hard drive as efficient as possible by defragging it regularly.

Step Two
Dim your screen - Most laptops come with the ability to dim your laptop screen. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.

Step Three
Cut down on programs running in the background. Itunes, Desktop Search, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life. Shut down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.

Step Four
Cut down external devices - USB devices (including your mouse) & WiFi drain down your laptop battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your laptop battery.

Step Five
Add more RAM - This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory. Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most applicable if you do need to run memory intensive programs which actually require heavy usage of virtual memory.

Step Six

Run off a hard drive rather than CD/DVD - As power consuming as hard drives are, CD and DVD drives are worse. Even having one in the drive can be power consuming.

You can even use programs like Microsoft's Virtual CD ROM program to make a file to use like a virtual CD.

Step Seven
Keep the battery contacts clean: Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your battery more efficient.

Step Eight

Take care of your battery - Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory effects)

Step Nine
Hibernate not standby - Although placing a laptop in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.

Step Ten
Keep operating temperature down - Your laptop operates more efficiently when it’s cooler. Clean out your air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner.

Step Eleven
Set up and optimize your power options - Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows control panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).

Step Twelve
Don’t multitask - Do one thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email client run in the background and listening to your latest set of MP3’s, set your mind to one thing only. If you don’t you’ll only drain out your batteries before anything gets completed!

Step Thirteen
Go easy on the PC demands - The more you demand from your PC. Passive activities like email and word processing consume much less power than gaming or playing a DVD. If you’re got a single battery charge - pick your priorities wisely.

Step Fourteen
Get yourself a more efficient laptop - Laptops are getting more and more efficient in nature to the point where some manufacturers are talking about all day long batteries. Picking up a newer more efficient laptop to replace an aging one is usually a quick fix

Step Fifteen
Turn off the autosave function. MS-Word or Excel’s autosave functions are great but because they keep saving regular intervals, they work your hard driver harder than it may have to. If you plan to do this, you may want to turn it back on as the battery runs low. While it saves battery life in the beginning, you will want to make sure your work is saved when your battery dies.

7 steps to choose the right laptop

How to Choose a Laptop

Introduction:

The size and portability of a laptop is the most popular reason that people choose to purchase one. Like its desktop counterpart, a laptop computer has many possibilities in terms of price and performance. Here is your guide to choosing the laptop that is right for your needs.

Steps:

Step One
Think about how you want to use your laptop in order to decide on performance specifications. If you enjoy making home movies, for example, you should select a laptop that comes with a recordable DVD drive and a large memory to hold your films. But if you travel frequently, it is worthwhile to choose a laptop that comes with a built-in wireless Internet card.

Step Two
Decide on the screen size you prefer based on your usage. Gamers should choose a screen that's wide enough to capture all the exciting graphics while students should opt for something smaller and easier on the eyes. There are many sizes out there so pay close attention to what works for you.

Step Three
Visit an electronics store that carries a wide range of laptops. Take some time to get familiar with the size, price and weight of several different models. Just because an expensive laptop is smaller than the cheaper ones does not necessarily mean it is lighter or better.

Step Four
Inquire with the manufacturer or salesperson about upgrade options. Technology changes rapidly and your laptop should be able to last many years if you have the option to upgrade memory or disk drives.

Step Five
Ask about about details that are often overlooked such as battery life, connectivity ports and networking capabilities. These factors can seriously impact the way you use your machine, so choose a laptop with a nice balance of all three.

Step Six
Go online to check if any competitors are offering the same computer for a discount. If so, you may be able to bargain with another retailer and get the price you want.

step seven
Consider an extended warranty. Due to their size, laptops contain parts that are crammed into a tight space with many complex connections and, unlike desktop computers, their delicate parts do not come apart easily. If something goes wrong, you can look to your extended warranty to cover unexpected costs.

Tips & Warnings:

  • A salesperson will invariably try to make you purchase a laptop that is loaded with extra features you will never use. Stay conscious of your needs and be firm about the price you are willing to pay.

11 steps to protect ur apple laptop

How to Protect an Apple Laptop

Introduction:

The moment you buy your new, sleek, shiny Apple Laptop, make sure you take the precautions necessary to protect your investment. There are a number of factors you’ll have to consider, including theft, data protections and maintenance. However, all the equipment, systems and services you need are at your fingertips. Here are some ideas.

Things You'll Need

  • Apple laptop

Steps:

Step One
Don't let this be you while traveling.Use common sense. When carrying your laptop, don’t leave it lying in the front seat of your car when you park, and when traveling, be vigilant at airport security checkpoints where you’re going to be flustered dealing with the TSA. Thieves love it when you’re flustered.

Step Two
Hang on to your laptop by all means necessary Even if you're careful, you still might lose your laptop, so make sure you’ve secured your personal or financial information. Check through your Apple operating system and enable security and encryption applications, such as FileVault and Keychain.

Step Three
Secure your laptop with a strong password. It should be at least 8 or more characters in length, but if you have the patience and the paranoia, 14 characters or longer is not a bad idea. One easy way to create a long password is to come up with a full sentence, with both words and letters, you can remember easily.

Step Four
It’s the advice everyone gets, but rarely takes, and that is to back up your data regularly, especially before you take your laptop on a trip. Invest in an external hard drive, such as a Lacie Drive, and use the appropriate software to set up a regularly scheduled back up appointment.

Step Five
Watch out for spysTake advantage of all the other basic security precautions available on your operating system, including the anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Make sure you install operating system updates, too, whenever they announce their arrival on your screen.

Step Six
Be aware of the heat your laptop generates. Never use a soft surface when using or recharging your laptop as it creates a fire hazard.

Step Seven
Don't let the battery get too hot. Lift it off your desk so air can circulate around it. And don’t ever leave it in you car in the hot sun. Overheating will degrade the laptop’s battery and shorten its life.

Step Eight

be careful eating around your laptop
Again, it’s obvious, but do watch out when drinking soda or coffee near your laptop. A mishap with the double espresso that’s powering your brain to write your eHow article “How to Type Faster” will have you in a bad mood for days. Think about buying a keyboard protector from Zcover.com, to protect against such accidents.

Step Nine
A hard knock can mean an expensive repair so invest in a good carrying case that suits your needs. There’s a wide range of sleeves, briefcases and backpack designs to choose from in stores and on the Internet. Check out what’s available at the Apple Web site (see Resources) or do a search and browse until you find what’s right for you.

Step Ten
Think about investing in a computer tracking system like Mac PhoneHome, if you travel a lot and are the type of person who’s in the habit of losing your valuables. Computer tracking systems help recover stolen laptops by having the computer periodically report its location. When the laptop is stolen, you contact the security company that operates the message sending software. The company determines the location of the laptop and works with the law to recover it.

Step Eleven
Invest in an AppleCare Protection Plan. This is a service and support solution that extends the basic coverage on your Mac to 3 years and offers a range of services including telephone technical support, global repair coverage and onsite repair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t be left closing the barn door when the horse has bolted. It’s all too common to meet people in computer stores buying an external hard drive and complaining that the reason they’re doing this is their computer crashed and they lost everything. Lesson learned–but the hard way. Don’t let you be one of those buyers. Stop what you’re doing and back up your data right now.
  • It’s estimated that about 600,000 laptops are stolen every year. That means the chances of having you laptop stolen are about 1 in 10.

4 steps to treat acne

How to Treat Acne!

Introduction:

Acne can damage self-image to a degree that a person never recovers. The myths about acne causes are many, but examining the real cause behind acne will help to heal the problem.

Steps:

Step One
Hormones, especially testosterone, progesterone are very powerful stimulators that stimulate acne. Certain birth control pills have a lot of progesterone, but Estrogen actually makes acne better. Make sure you ask your doctor which pill they are prescribing if you have skin problems.

Step Two
Sweating:
Areas of the skin that sweat more profusely than average is more likely to develop acne. Hot and humid weather can make acne worse, especially in the tropic. Acne is more common and very severe in most cases for people living in the tropics.
Although inefficient face washing does not cause acne, soap and water will reduce the number of bacteria getting into the whiteheads and turning them black. Some evidence suggests that the lightly abrasive buffing pads may help.

Step Three
Medications: There are a few, very few, medications that make acne worse. If your acne gets worse when you start a new medications consult your doctor for a substitute medication if at all possible. It can take months to recover from a full blown acne flair up.
Benzyl peroxide is an ingredient in most acne medicines that has been proven to help with mild to moderate cases of acne. The cheap ones are just as good as the expensive ones as long as they have benzyl peroxide in them.

Step Four
The pustule that gets bigger and bigger with no head in sight may require a prescription strength antibiotic lotion like clindamycin or erythromycin. If cysts and scars begin to form then you may need to take antibiotics by mouth. They must be taken everyday and exactly as prescribed

eat like a model !!

How to Eat Like a Model

Introduction:

Magazines crammed with supernaturally skinny men and women give the impression that those good looking bodies are gifts from above. However, if you take a peek into the daily life and eating of a model you'll see that their days are dominated by strict diets. The result of all the dieting, carb-less food and macro-nutrients is a great looking, toned body. Follow these steps to eat like a model.

Steps:

Step One
Weigh, measure and record. Models know exactly what, how much and when they eat. This is a skill that models develop by obsessing over the nutrition labels on food, weighing and measuring portions and keeping track of daily carb and calorie intake. If you want to eat like a model, start to measure and record everything you eat.

Step Two
Get rid of carbs and sugar. Carbs and sugar are two of the food compounds that get most easily converted into fat. Further, they do very little in the way of improving health and nutrition. So, cut carbs and sugar out of your diet entirely, including the carbs and sugars found in drinks, in order to eat like a model.

Step Three
Stop eating at night. Because energy becomes fat during the night, as you sleep and are not burning calories, most models stop eating at least three hours before bedtime. When they have a show or photo shoot, models will extend this time to four or sometimes five hours before sleeping. So, find a substitute, such as tea or club soda, to substitute for food before you go to sleep.

Step Four
Stick to macro-nutrients. If you have trouble understanding how to eat like a model, just stick to the basic rule of macro-nutrients. A macro-nutrient is a nutrient that an organism needs in large quantities in order to survive. Proteins, minerals and certain kinds of fatty acids are good examples of macro-nutrients. Things like sugar and trans fats are not macro-nutrients and shouldn't be eaten if you want to eat like a model.

5 steps to loose 10 pounds in 2 weeks

How to lose 10 pounds in two weeks

Introduction:

Nothing is more motivating to lose 10 pounds than a wedding, class reunion, fantastic vacation in Hawaii or a recent unflattering photo in your swimsuit. This summer all of these things are happening to me, so I had to figure out how to lose ten pounds and fast. Here's what worked for me...

Things You'll Need:

  • Will power, determination, discipline, a good place to work out and an honest look in the mirror.

Steps:

Step One
Empty out the refrigerator and cupboards of bad food. You won't be cheating, so no need to keep the cookies, candy, soda, chips, etc. It's hard to throw 'em out, but you'll know you're committed once you do.

Step Two
Plan out your diet. Stay away from carbs, which is the common trend now. I try to stay under 28 grams per day, which is basically a sandwich at lunch with some vegetables. Eat eggs, chicken, steak, pork chops and vegetables. I got so tired of chicken that i found ways to cook steak and pork chops for dinner. And that salad you eat, no salad dressing!!! Use lemon juice instead, it tastes fine and is much healthier for you.

Step Three
Be disciplined with your daily routines. Work out and eat at normal times so you're sure to get in what you need every day. Don't eat late, over eat or make too much food. Walk when you can, walk to the bank, the grocery store, your friends house, video store, etc. There's no reason to waste good weather anyway!!!

Step Four
The workout. If you don't work out, you'll just be kidding yourself. Do good cardio, meaning aerobics classes, bicycling, running, etc. Personally, I think those elliptical machines are a waste of time, but that's just my opinion. Go to the gym and make sure your diligent with your workouts.

Step Five
This last one is too easy... Drink water! Stay away from the sodas, including diet soda. Juices are good but have lots of sugar and carbs in them. Eventually, your mouth will crave water and it will taste the best for you.
